How to tap into a beginner’s mindset
Even if you’re a seasoned vet
Here’s something I continually remind myself of in my postpartum era (afterall once postpartum, always postpartum!):
It’s OK to have a beginner’s mindset.
Throughout the course of life, there will inevitably be changes to our bodies. We all age, and that’s definitely a big change, but many of us may also have bodies that experience pregnancy, postpartum life, menopause, unanticipated injuries, and the list goes on…
Just because we’ve mastered something physically once, doesn’t mean it will always be. There may come a time that we’re introducing a new post-injury or post-pregnancy body to something we were once amazing at that now feels extra challenging.
There’s nothing wrong with that.
Keeping an open mind (hi, we love modifications!) and being willing to start back at the beginning is the best way to guide your new body to that mastery that you had before, or even better, a completely new form of mastery.
As any new mom can attest, finding core muscles again post-baby can be…humbling. So, as I’ve taken on my own new postpartum era, I’ve tried to remind myself to start from the beginning and build up. It’s been a slow process, but my body is feeling stronger and more ready for new challenges everday (Teasers, we’re comin’ for ya!).
Have you ever found yourself in this place? I’d love to hear about it! And if you’re in need of a starting point, let’s chat! Pilates is a perfect way to build strength from the inside out.
