Who’s on your team?

Your healthcare team is composed of more people than you think!

I’ll admit it. I’m a stickler about annual visits to the doctor.

Whether it’s the OBGYN, primary care, dentist or eye doc, they all play a vital role in health.

Having a healthcare team you trust is SO important in maintaining a body that feels and functions at its best long term.

If you’re someone who sees a fitness coach with any consistency, whether it's a class instructor or personal trainer, you should consider them part of your team.

While they may not be listening to your heart or checking your ears, they’re likely one of the few people who see you and your body multiple times a month. That means they’re a great resource for the rest of your healthcare team.

Here’s what I like to remind my clients so they can get the most out of everyone in their corner:

Your team can (and should) work together

Sure, it may not seem like the primary care doctor needs to know what’s happening in your fitness sessions, but it can definitely be helpful when an injury, pain or a change in your body arises. And, your instructor or trainer might even be able to help you understand what questions to ask your doctor to get more specific answers.

Bring notes

If you’re like me, as soon as the doctor walks in, your mind goes completely blank. Bringing notes can be a complete gamechanger. It’s not only a reminder of the questions to ask, it makes it easy to write the answers down too.

Know your family history

This is an important one to keep in mind for any health professional you see, from OBGYN to acupuncturist. Knowing your family history can give you and your doctor insight into what may be happening in your body now and what you can work to prevent in the future.

Shift your mindset

It can feel stressful to go to the doctor. But, at the end of the day, seeing them is preventative. Consider it similar to going to the gym, or your Pilates class. Plus, it’ll likely give you some insights into how you can get more out of your gym or Pilates sessions too!

So, here’s my annual reminder, what appointments do you need to get on the schedule?
