3 workout red flags
Here’s what I’m watching for as an instructor.
Working out is never going to be perfect.
Some days you might feel full of energy and others, ehhhh, not so much. But, there should be a consistency to the joy you feel in moving, the accomplished feeling you have after a workout and the eventual realization that your body is able to do things it couldn’t months or years ago.
If not, it’s possible some workout red flags might be creeping in. Here are a few that I’m always watching for as an instructor:
Pain
And not the good kind! If you’re feeling consistenly injured, extra fatigued or like you’re pushing too far past your limit, it’s time to notice the red flag! It likely means your body needs to slow down, take a rest or reset with a new class or instructor.
Letting your ego always be the guide
Don’t get me wrong, our ego plays an important role in helping progress us forward. But, letting our ego be the only guide can mean that our muscles and bodies don’t get a say. That can eventually lead to pushing past our limits, getting injured and ultimately, hindering our overall progress.
Hating what you’re doing
This is a big, big, big one! If you don’t like what you’re doing anymore, it’s time to re-evaluate! Challenge yourself to a new kind of class, a different form of movement (running anyone?) or get really crazy and give your body a complete rest.
It’s a big priority for me (in fact I came up with even MORE red flags) to make sure my clients understand the red flags of the fitness world so they can stay safe and continue moving in ways they love.
