What a “meh” workout can mean

Here are some clues for when to advance your workout.

It’s happened to all of us at one time or another. You put on your favorite workout clothes, get yourself out of work on time to make it to class, get settled on your mat and then you realize…

You. Just. Aren’t. Feeling. It.

The good news? We’ve all been there.

The thing to watch for? If it’s happening frequently. That could be a sign of something else. Namely, that it’s time to change up or advance your workout.

Here are the two biggest clues on my radar for when I know it’s time to re-evaluate my workouts:

  1. Not feeling challenged

  2. Noticing that progress has stalled

Most of the time these two clues join forces and leave you with a workout that feels…meh.

Not feeling challenged physically can mean that you’re just not in the workout mentally. And, forcing yourself to continually take class after class feeling that way will defffffinitely hinder your long-term progress.

If you’re feeling in a “meh” workout lull (yes, that’s the official diagnosis!), chat with your instructor. They can help you figure out how to progress things, or switch it up altogether.

In my experience, and especially with Pilates, simply making small tweaks here and there can change how the workout AND your body and mind feel.

The Pilates Party To Go offers classes on your time, but also “how to” videos, modification and progression options. It’s a perfect way to get yourself out of that “meh” workout lull.
