How Pilates became my travel BFF
I love to travel. It’s probably how I found myself married to a pilot.
Unfortunately, travel doesn’t always love me. And my hunch is I’m not alone.
My travel days tend to consist of buzzy energy, nervousness, adrenaline, excitement and some exhaustion thrown in there for good measure. I notice that after a day getting myself to the airport, navigating security lines, sitting on an airplane and figuring out where to go when I land, my brain is foggy, my body is crunchy and I am tiiiiired.
While a good post-travel nap can be my BFF, Pilates has actually become more of a gamechanger for me (and for my husband too!).
In fact, I’ve learned that the best thing I can do to center myself post-travel is to move my body, and - surprise! - Pilates is always my go-to.
It allows me to focus on:
Breathing to calm my nervous system,
Length and strength to workout the physical kinks, and
Continual body scans to shift my focus back into the present and toward my new surroundings.
When I take the time to do it right, a 10-15-minute Pilates ritual helps me shed the stress of any travel day so I can truly enjoy and be present where I’m at.
The Pilates Party to Go was an idea that came to me after one of my post-travel Pilates sessions. I felt SO much better that I wanted to figure out a way to share it with my clients wherever they found themselves. And while Mike (that husband I mentioned) was my first target, my goal was to create something that someone at any level of Pilates could do and make it easily accessible from anywhere (hotel room, hotel gym, pool deck, beach, the options are endless!).
